Since The Nether transferred to the Duke of York Theatre in the West End, in February of this year, I have been playing the role of Iris. It’s been a really exciting part for me to play and very different from the West End musical roles I have played so far. It’s a really serious acting role, which also requires me to have an American accent throughout. I’m really loving it.
The Nether was written by the brilliant American playwright, Jennifer Haley, and the West End adaptation has been Directed by Jeremy Herrin, through Headlong productions. I get to play alongside some really amazing actors… David Calder, Amanda Hale, Stanley Townsend, and Ivano Jeremiah – the reviews we’ve been getting have been fantastic – they are all so talented!! My role as Iris is played in rotation with Isabella Pappas and Perdie Hibbins. Zoe Brough also played Iris, before I started, during the preview shows. All the girls have been really great and we are all very supportive of each other.
The play is set in 2050 and is a futuristic crime drama that explores the whole world of virtual reality, and what it would be like if we began living our lives virtually rather than in the real world. My character plays an avatar in this virtual world – which is called The Nether. The set is truly incredible, designed by Es Devlin, and brings this virtual world to life so cleverly. The really exciting part though has been the recent Olivier nomination. I can’t believe that we’ve been nominated for ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’. It’s going to be such an exciting night, to walk the red carpet and be a part of the Olivier Awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House!!!
Here’s a few photos too, of me in the role of Iris, as well as some shots taken with the Director, Producer and cast at the opening night party.
I will let you all know about my exciting experience at the Olivier Awards in April!!!
